Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased 32 percent
In December 2021, 65,100 registered bed nights were recorded in Saimaa Region (+31.5 %), of which 61,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 28 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 151 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 32 percent from last year's December.
46,300 nights (+46.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 18,800 nights (+5.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 1.2 million registered bed nights (+17.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 58,500 (-47.5 %) for foreigners in Saimaa Region, in total 1.2 million (+11.4 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Length of stay was 1.9 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased nine percent compared to earlier year. In Saimaa Region, length of stay in December was on average 1.9 nights and in Finland 2.2 nights (-5.9 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.8 nights (-0.3 %) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+20.3 %).
35,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 45 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 95.1 percent were domestic, and 4.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Saimaa Region on average 1.8 nights (-0.19) and foreigners 2.2 nights (-1.3).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 52 percent
A total of 37,900 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 70.9 percent.

Registered accommodation sales in December were 3.3 million euro (+884,000).
