Salla: Tourism in a nutshell
21,400 registered bed nights
In March 2019, 21,400 bed nights were recorded in Salla (-4.2 %), of which 15,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased one percent. In total, bed nights decreased four percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Netherlands (3,600 nights).
20,900 nights (+40.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 410 nights (-94.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 31,900 bed nights (-4.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 21,300 (-2.1 %) for foreigners in Salla, in total 53,200 (-3.7 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Salla out of total bed nights was 1.1 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.2 % and foreign bed nights 1.0 %.
3,900 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 76.7 percent were domestic, and 23.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Salla on average 5.3 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 6.1 nights (+0.44).

Total accommodation sales in March were 882,000 euro (+498,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 7.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 820,000 euro (+491,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 62,400 euro (+6,800).
Total January-March sales were 1.9 million euro and they increased 844,000 euro from the previous year.
