Savonlinna Region: Tourism in a nutshell
56,400 registered bed nights
In August 2019, 56,400 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna Region (-6.7 %), of which 36,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 20,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased six percent and foreign bed nights decreased eight percent. In total, bed nights decreased seven percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (9,400 nights).
45,400 nights (-6.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 11,000 nights (-9.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 211,000 bed nights (+0.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 70,700 (+0.0 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna Region, in total 282,000 (+0.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 78.3 percent were domestic, and 21.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna Region on average 1.6 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 3.2 nights (+0.3).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.8 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in August were 2.8 million euro (+380,000).
Registered January-August sales were 15.3 million euro and they increased 4.0 million euro from the previous year.
