Savonlinna Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 23 percent
In January 2019, 18,300 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna Region (+23.0 %), of which 12,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 33 percent and foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, bed nights increased 23 percent from last year's January.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (4,100 nights).
66 nights (-99.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 34 nights (-99.1 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 1.2 percent
Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Savonlinna Region out of total bed nights was 1.2 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.5 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.
8,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 80.6 percent were domestic, and 19.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna Region on average 2.0 nights (+0.49) and foreigners 3.6 nights (+0.22).

262,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 262,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 80.1 percent.

There was a total of 34,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in January were 744,000 euro (+176,000).
