Savonlinna Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased five percent
In March 2019, 18,200 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna Region (+4.6 %), of which 15,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 15 percent. In total, bed nights increased five percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,900 nights).
12,700 nights (+2.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,500 nights (+10.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 42,700 bed nights (+18.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 12,200 (-0.9 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna Region, in total 54,800 (+13.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 1.0 percent
Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Savonlinna Region out of total bed nights was 1.0 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.5 %.
9,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 86.6 percent were domestic, and 13.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna Region on average 1.9 nights (+0.31) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.4).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased seven percent
A total of 292,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 81.9 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 32 percent
There was a total of 65,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 930,000 euro
Registered accommodation sales in March were 930,000 euro (+282,000).
Registered January-March sales were 2.7 million euro and they increased 802,000 euro from the previous year.
