Savonlinna: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In March 2019, 14,100 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna (+0.9 %), of which 11,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,800 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased three percent and foreign bed nights decreased six percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,800 nights).
11,000 nights (+3.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,100 nights (-6.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 31,800 bed nights (+12.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 11,100 (-0.3 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna, in total 42,900 (+8.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Savonlinna out of total bed nights was 0.8 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.5 %.
7,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 18 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 83.4 percent were domestic, and 16.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 1.9 nights (+0.45) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.2).
310 air travelers
The airport received a total of 310 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 25 percent.
Of local passengers, 6.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 93.6 %.
In addition, there were 300 passengers departing the airport (+7.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 620.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased seven percent
A total of 292,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 81.9 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 32 percent
There was a total of 65,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 882,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in March were 882,000 euro (+197,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 22.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 722,000 euro (+156,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 159,000 euro (+41,000).
Total January-March sales were 2.6 million euro and they increased 384,000 euro from the previous year.
