Savonlinna: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 17 percent
In January 2019, 14,700 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna (+17.4 %), of which 9,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 31 percent and foreign bed nights decreased one percent. In total, bed nights increased 17 percent from last year's January.
10,700 nights (+6.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,000 nights (+64.4 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Savonlinna out of total bed nights was 1.0 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.
5,900 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 11 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 77.2 percent were domestic, and 22.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 2.1 nights (+0.7) and foreigners 3.8 nights (+0.15).
240 air travelers
The airport received a total of 240 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 22 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.
In addition, there were 240 passengers departing the airport (-32.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 470.

262,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 262,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 80.1 percent.

There was a total of 34,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 863,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in January were 863,000 euro (+300,000). The share of Airbnb was 36.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 634,000 euro (+133,000) and Airbnb sales 229,000 euro (+166,000).
