Savonlinna: Tourism in a nutshell
46,800 registered bed nights
In August 2019, 46,800 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna (-14.3 %), of which 28,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 18,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 15 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 13 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 14 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (8,800 nights).
40,700 nights (-9.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,100 nights (-37.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 167,000 bed nights (-6.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 64,600 (-3.0 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna, in total 232,000 (-5.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 19 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 75.9 percent were domestic, and 24.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 1.6 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 3.2 nights (+0.32).

The airport received a total of 115 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 35 percent.
Of local passengers, 2.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 97.4 %.
In addition, there were 300 passengers departing the airport (-22.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 420 (-26.5 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in August were 2.2 million euro (+9,700).
Registered January-August sales were 12.3 million euro and they increased 2.0 million euro from the previous year.
