Savonlinna: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In October 2019, 15,600 bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna (+3.8 %), of which 13,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased three percent and foreign bed nights increased seven percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's October.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,500 nights).
12,500 nights (+28.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,200 nights (-40.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and October, 195,000 bed nights (-4.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 72,700 (-3.9 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna, in total 268,000 (-4.4 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

8,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 12 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 87.7 percent were domestic, and 12.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 1.8 nights (+0.3) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.04).
920 air travelers
The airport received a total of 920 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased four percent.
Of local passengers, 59.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 41.0 %.
In addition, there were 1,100 passengers departing the airport (+38.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,000 (+15.4 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent
A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Registered accommodation sales in October were 895,000 euro (+78,900).
Registered January-October sales were 14.1 million euro and they increased 2.1 million euro from the previous year.
