Savonlinna: Tourism in a nutshell

15,800 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 15,800 bed nights (+15.5 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Savonlinna in December 2021. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 71 % and non-registered 29 %.
Between January and December, the number of paid bed nights was 366,000 (+17.6 %). Share of registered was 74 % and non-registered 26 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Registered bed nights increased 29 percent
In December 2021, 11,200 registered bed nights were recorded in Savonlinna (+28.5 %), of which 10,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 18 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 1,000 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 29 percent from last year's December.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (560 nights).
7,600 nights (+31.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,600 nights (+23.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 256,000 registered bed nights (+28.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,400 (-8.4 %) for foreigners in Savonlinna, in total 271,000 (+25.5 %) registered nights.

6,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 43 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 95.3 percent were domestic, and 4.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Savonlinna on average 1.5 nights (-0.25) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+0.43).

Accommodation sales 758,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in December were 758,000 euro (+81,400). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 23.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 580,000 euro (+108,000) and non-registered sales 177,000 euro (-26,800).
Total January-December sales were 16.8 million euro and they increased 3.0 million euro from the previous year.
