Sodankylä: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 13 percent
In January 2019, 29,100 bed nights were recorded in Sodankylä (+13.1 %), of which 5,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 23,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 26 percent and foreign bed nights increased 11 percent. In total, bed nights increased 13 percent from last year's January.
21,300 nights (+12.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,800 nights (+14.4 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Sodankylä out of total bed nights was 1.9 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 3.5 %.
10,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 12.8 percent were domestic, and 87.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Sodankylä on average 4.2 nights (+0.95) and foreigners 2.7 nights (+0.21).
