11,200 registered bed nights (May)

In May 2020, 11,200 bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (-79.5 %), of which 11,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 172 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 68 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 99 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 79 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (55 nights).

6,600 nights (-82.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,600 nights (-74.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 93,900 bed nights (-42.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 49,600 (-41.8 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 144,000 (-42.2 %) nights.

Market share 3.7 percent (May)

Total of 305,000 bed nights (-80.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 285,000 nights (-74.4 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 20,000 nights (-95.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total bed nights was 3.7 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.9 %.

4,500 tourists arrived to accommodation (May)

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 84 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.2 percent were domestic, and 1.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 2.5 nights (+0.62) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.25).

19,400 Russian travelers via eastern border (May)

A total of 19,400 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 66.8 percent.
