Registered bed nights increased 127 percent (May)

In May 2021, 25,600 registered bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (+126.9 %), of which 25,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 690 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 124 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 300 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 127 percent from last year's May.

17,700 nights (+172.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,900 nights (+65.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 107,000 registered bed nights (+12.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 3,200 (-93.6 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 110,000 (-24.1 %) registered nights.

Market share 3.0 percent (May)

Total of 850,000 registered bed nights (+183.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 779,000 nights (+177.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 71,600 nights (+266.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total registered bed nights was 3.0 % (-0.8 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.2 % and foreign bed nights 1.0 %.

12,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (May)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 172 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 97.3 percent were domestic, and 2.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 2.0 nights (-0.41) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.1).

Ferry arrivals from different harbors

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 43 percent

A total of 29,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 69.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 370 percent

There was a total of 2,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 55.1 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Foreign visitors and their consumption (May)

The number of foreign visitors in May was 2,700 (+321.5 %). Out of them 2,000 were on a daytrip and 650 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and May was 14,800 (-96.4 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in South Karelia in May was 450,000 euro (169 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 132,000 euro and day visitors 318,000 euro. Between January and May the consumption was 2.4 million euro.
