Registered bed nights increased 11 percent (February)

In February 2020, 53,100 bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (+11.4 %), of which 38,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 14,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased four percent and foreign bed nights increased 36 percent. In total, bed nights increased 11 percent from last year's February.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (12,900 nights).

43,600 nights (+17.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,500 nights (-8.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 60,400 bed nights (-1.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 42,400 (+22.7 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 103,000 (+7.5 %) nights.

Market share 2.9 percent (February)

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total bed nights was 2.9 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.1 % and foreign bed nights 2.4 %.

29,500 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 16 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 70.4 percent were domestic, and 29.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 1.9 nights (-0.04) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-0.12).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 24 percent (February)

A total of 255,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 29 percent (February)

There was a total of 51,600 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 83.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 2.6 million euro (February)

Total accommodation sales in February were 2.6 million euro (+218,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 10.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.4 million euro (+88,700) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 245,000 euro (+130,000).

Total January-February sales were 5.6 million euro and they increased 400,000 euro from the previous year.
