61,000 registered bed nights

In August 2022, 61,000 registered bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (-1.3 %), of which 50,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 10,400 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 14 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 280 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased one percent from last year's August.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (6,100 nights).

42,800 nights (-14.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 18,200 nights (+57.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 377,000 registered bed nights (+10.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 31,600 (+200.1 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 409,000 (+16.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.6 percent

Total of 2.3 million registered bed nights (+12.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (-2.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 560,000 nights (+114.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total registered bed nights was 2.6 % (-0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.9 % and foreign bed nights 1.9 %.

34,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 84.3 percent were domestic, and 15.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 1.8 nights (-0.13) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+0.01).

1,700 air travelers (Lappeenranta)

The airport received a total of 1,700 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 116 percent.

In addition, there were 1,600 passengers departing the airport (+132.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,300 (+370.9 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 250 percent

A total of 129,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)

There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 3.6 million euro

Total accommodation sales in August were 3.6 million euro (+292,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 14.5 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 3.1 million euro (+150,000) and non-registered sales 524,000 euro (+142,000).

Total January-August sales were 22.3 million euro and they increased 3.5 million euro from the previous year.
