Registered bed nights increased six percent

In February 2019, 47,700 bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (+6.0 %), of which 36,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 10,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 17 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 19 percent. In total, bed nights increased six percent from last year's February.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (8,400 nights).

37,200 nights (+1.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 10,400 nights (+26.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 61,000 bed nights (+12.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 34,600 (-16.1 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 95,600 (+0.1 %) nights.

Market share 2.8 percent

Total of 1.7 million bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+2.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 601,000 nights (+0.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total bed nights was 2.8 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.3 % and foreign bed nights 1.8 %.

25,500 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 76.5 percent were domestic, and 23.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 1.9 nights (+0.08) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.02).

Ferry arrivals from different harbors

205,000 Russian travelers via eastern border

A total of 205,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 82.1 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased 11 percent

There was a total of 40,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 2.4 million euro

Total accommodation sales in February were 2.4 million euro (+316,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 5.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.3 million euro (+384,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 115,000 euro (-68,500).

Total January-February sales were 5.2 million euro and they increased 406,000 euro from the previous year.
