Registered bed nights increased 39 percent

In December 2021, 32,000 registered bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (+39.3 %), of which 30,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,900 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 36 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 119 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 39 percent from last year's December.

24,900 nights (+36.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,100 nights (+51.7 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 509,000 registered bed nights (+13.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 18,200 (-72.3 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 528,000 (+2.6 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.0 percent

Total of 1.6 million registered bed nights (+109.8 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.0 million nights (+44.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 593,000 nights (+823.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total registered bed nights was 2.0 % (-1.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

16,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 48 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 93.6 percent were domestic, and 6.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 2.0 nights (-0.09) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-1.2).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 52 percent

A total of 37,900 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 70.9 percent.

Accommodation sales 1.8 million euro

Total accommodation sales in December were 1.8 million euro (+509,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 10.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.7 million euro (+587,000) and non-registered sales 190,000 euro (-77,700).

Total January-December sales were 28.8 million euro and they increased 863,000 euro from the previous year.
