Registered bed nights increased five percent

In September 2022, 49,000 registered bed nights were recorded in South Karelia (+5.3 %), of which 37,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 11,900 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 16 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 380 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased five percent from last year's September.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (7,800 nights).

32,400 nights (+9.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,700 nights (-1.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and September, 414,000 registered bed nights (+7.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 43,500 (+234.0 %) for foreigners in South Karelia, in total 458,000 (+15.0 %) registered nights.

Market share 2.6 percent

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (+16.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.5 million nights (+3.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 405,000 nights (+98.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of South Karelia out of total registered bed nights was 2.6 % (-0.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.6 % and foreign bed nights 2.9 %.

27,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 19 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 78.4 percent were domestic, and 21.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Karelia on average 1.7 nights (-0.26) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.92).

1,500 air travelers (Lappeenranta)

The airport received a total of 1,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 119 percent.

In addition, there were 1,600 passengers departing the airport (+119.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,100 (+325.5 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 320 percent

A total of 140,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Accommodation sales 3.1 million euro

Total accommodation sales in September were 3.1 million euro (+242,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 11.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.8 million euro (+155,000) and non-registered sales 355,000 euro (+86,600).

Total January-September sales were 25.5 million euro and they increased 3.7 million euro from the previous year.
