South Savonia: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In June 2019, 87,000 bed nights were recorded in South Savonia (+1.0 %), of which 69,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 17,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased two percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (8,300 nights).
68,800 nights (-1.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 18,300 nights (+13.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 216,000 bed nights (+6.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 53,300 (-2.9 %) for foreigners in South Savonia, in total 269,000 (+4.8 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

42,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 86.2 percent were domestic, and 13.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in South Savonia on average 1.9 nights (-0.15) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+0.38).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 10 percent
There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.8 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 3.8 million euro (+694,000).
Registered January-June sales were 13.2 million euro and they increased 2.6 million euro from the previous year.
