Southwest Finland: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered & non-registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
100,000 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 100,000 bed nights (+20.5 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Southwest Finland in February 2020. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 77 % and non-registered 23 %.
Between January and February, the number of paid bed nights was 189,000 (+21.6 %). Share of registered was 76 % and non-registered 24 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased 10 percent
In February 2020, 77,600 registered bed nights were recorded in Southwest Finland (+10.4 %), of which 66,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 11,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 14 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased six percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 10 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (1,400 nights).
49,100 nights (+4.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 28,600 nights (+21.6 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 121,000 registered bed nights (+14.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 22,000 (-1.2 %) for foreigners in Southwest Finland, in total 143,000 (+11.4 %) registered nights.

Length of stay increased two percent in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. In Southwest Finland, length of stay in February was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+2.0 %).
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Southwest Finland on average 1.6 nights (+0.7 %) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-1.0 %).
46,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 88.2 percent were domestic, and 11.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Southwest Finland on average 1.6 nights (+0.05) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.03).

Accommodation sales 5.3 million euro
Total accommodation sales in February were 5.3 million euro (+805,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 11.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 4.7 million euro (+512,000) and non-registered sales 593,000 euro (+292,000).
Total January-February sales were 10.0 million euro and they increased 1.6 million euro from the previous year.
