Registered bed nights increased four percent

In December 2018, 687,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Stockholm (+4.2 %), of which 385,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 302,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased three percent and registered foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, registered bed nights increased four percent from last year's December.

202,000 rooms (+8.3 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 206,000 rooms (+6.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 5.3 million registered bed nights (+0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 4.6 million (+8.3 %) for foreigners in Stockholm, in total 9.9 million (+3.8 %) registered nights.

Market share 19.9 percent

Total of 3.4 million registered bed nights (+1.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.7 million nights (+1.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 787,000 nights (+3.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Stockholm out of total registered bed nights was 19.9 % (+0.5 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 14.5 % and foreign bed nights 38.4 %.

345,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 63.5 percent were domestic, and 36.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Stockholm on average 1.8 nights (+0.07) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.05).

979,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 979,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased two percent.

Of local passengers, 72.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 27.4 %.

In addition, there were 1.1 million passengers departing the airport (-0.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2.1 million (-1.5 %).

Registered accommodation sales in December were 538.3 million crowns (+52.4 million).

Registered January-December sales were 8.3 billion crowns and they increased 388.0 million crowns from the previous year.

The number of domestic visitors in December was 714,000 (-1.0 %). Out of them 279,000 were on a daytrip and 435,000 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of domestic visitors between January and December was 9.9 million (-0.2 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Stockholm in December was 1.4 billion crowns (1,902 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.0 billion crowns and day visitors 322.0 million crowns. Between January and December the consumption was 20.0 billion crowns.
