Registered bed nights increased 10 percent

In May 2019, 984,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Stockholm (+9.7 %), of which 560,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 423,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 18 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased one percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 10 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United States (47,200 nights).

301,000 rooms (+21.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 311,000 rooms (+5.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 2.2 million registered bed nights (+9.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1.5 million (-2.1 %) for foreigners in Stockholm, in total 3.7 million (+4.5 %) registered nights.

Total of 5.3 million registered bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 4.1 million nights (+6.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 1.3 million nights (-5.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Stockholm out of total registered bed nights was 18.4 % (+1.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 13.8 % and foreign bed nights 33.2 %.

506,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 13 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 63.9 percent were domestic, and 36.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Stockholm on average 1.7 nights (-0.07) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+0.04).

1.3 million air travelers

The airport received a total of 1.3 million passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased seven percent.

Of local passengers, 74.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 25.4 %.

In addition, there were 1.3 million passengers departing the airport (-4.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2.5 million (-5.7 %).

Registered accommodation sales in May were 976.3 million crowns (+135.5 million).

Registered January-May sales were 3.2 billion crowns and they increased 132.0 million crowns from the previous year.

The number of domestic visitors in May was 1.0 million (+22.4 %). Out of them 442,000 were on a daytrip and 592,000 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of domestic visitors between January and May was 3.9 million (+10.7 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Stockholm in May was 1.7 billion crowns (1,688 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.4 billion crowns and day visitors 325.3 million crowns. Between January and May the consumption was 9.1 billion crowns.
