Paid bed nights

2,800 registered bed nights

In March 2023, 2,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Suomussalmi (-6.6 %), of which 2,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 790 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased two percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 16 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased seven percent from last year's March.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United Kingdom (210 nights).

2,500 nights (+7.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 260 nights (-59.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 3,700 registered bed nights (+8.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 3,500 (+58.8 %) for foreigners in Suomussalmi, in total 7,200 (+28.2 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (+7.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.4 million nights (+2.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 484,000 nights (+27.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Suomussalmi out of total registered bed nights was 0.1 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.

Length of stay was 2.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 15 percent compared to earlier year. In Suomussalmi, length of stay in March was on average 2.0 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-6.0 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 1.8 nights (-1.7 %) and foreigners 2.9 nights (+13.9 %).

1,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 80.2 percent were domestic, and 19.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 1.8 nights (-0.4) and foreigners 2.9 nights (-0.02).
