Paid bed nights

3,300 registered bed nights

In March 2019, 3,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Suomussalmi (-21.7 %), of which 1,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 17 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 36 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 22 percent from last year's March.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from France (1,200 nights).

3,300 nights (-21.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 37 nights (-56.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 2,500 registered bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 4,600 (-33.6 %) for foreigners in Suomussalmi, in total 7,100 (-25.2 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (-2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 567,000 nights (-1.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Suomussalmi out of total registered bed nights was 0.2 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.

Length of stay was 2.8 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 23 percent compared to earlier year. In Suomussalmi, length of stay in March was on average 2.8 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-2.4 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 2.0 nights (-4.2 %) and foreigners 3.7 nights (-14.2 %).

1,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 55.2 percent were domestic, and 44.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 2.0 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 3.7 nights (-1.4).
