Registered bed nights increased 39 percent

In June 2019, 8,200 registered bed nights were recorded in Suomussalmi (+38.8 %), of which 7,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 42 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 20 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 39 percent from last year's June.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United Kingdom (320 nights).

8,200 nights (+38.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16 nights by business visitors.

Between January and June, 12,300 registered bed nights (+24.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 6,700 (-25.6 %) for foreigners in Suomussalmi, in total 19,000 (+0.5 %) registered nights.

Total of 2.3 million registered bed nights (+6.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.7 million nights (+7.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 608,000 nights (+3.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Suomussalmi out of total registered bed nights was 0.4 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.

Length of stay was 2.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. In Suomussalmi, length of stay in June was on average 2.0 nights and in Finland 1.8 nights (+0.4 %).

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 2.0 nights (-4.1 %) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-27.2 %).

4,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 47 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.5 percent were domestic, and 13.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Suomussalmi on average 2.0 nights (-0.12) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.08).
