Svalbard: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 169 percent
In May 2022, 15,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Svalbard (+168.7 %), of which 9,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 6,900 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 55 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 6,600 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 169 percent from last year's May.
14,500 nights (+239.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 178 nights (-88.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and May, 43,500 registered bed nights (+74.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 23,900 (+3,650.6 %) for foreigners in Svalbard, in total 67,400 (+163.5 %) registered nights.

7,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 310 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 51.8 percent were domestic, and 48.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.5 nights (-1.0) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.46).

Accommodation sales 20.3 million crowns
Registered accommodation sales in May were 20.3 million crowns (+14.7 million).
Registered January-May sales were 85.5 million crowns and they increased 61.9 million crowns from the previous year.
