Svalbard: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 3,500 percent
In May 2021, 5,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Svalbard (+3,482.4 %), of which 5,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 103 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 3,900 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 440 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 3,500 percent from last year's May.
4,300 nights (+16,284.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,600 nights (+1,036.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and May, 24,900 registered bed nights (+54.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 640 (-95.5 %) for foreigners in Svalbard, in total 25,600 (-15.6 %) registered nights.

1,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 2,700 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 97.6 percent were domestic, and 2.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 3.5 nights (+1.0) and foreigners 2.5 nights (-3.8).

Accommodation sales 5.6 million crowns
Registered accommodation sales in May were 5.6 million crowns (+5.4 million).
Registered January-May sales were 23.6 million crowns and they decreased 2.0 million euro from the previous year.
