In May 2020, 165 registered bed nights were recorded in Svalbard (-99.0 %), of which 146 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 19 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 98 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 100 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 99 percent from last year's May.

26 nights (-99.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 139 nights (-43.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 16,200 registered bed nights (-67.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,100 (-52.1 %) for foreigners in Svalbard, in total 30,300 (-61.5 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.0 million registered bed nights (-62.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 959,000 nights (-51.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 70,600 nights (-90.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Svalbard out of total registered bed nights was 0.0 % (-0.6 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.0 %.

Length of stay increased 31 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 31 percent compared to earlier year. In Svalbard, length of stay in May was on average 2.7 nights and in Norway 2.7 nights (+46.1 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.5 nights (+7.2 %) and foreigners 6.3 nights (+33.1 %).

61 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 99 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 95.1 percent were domestic, and 4.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.5 nights (+0.35) and foreigners 6.3 nights (+4.4).
