Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 77 percent

In December 2021, 4,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Svalbard (+77.5 %), of which 3,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,700 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 22 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 730 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 77 percent from last year's December.

4,400 nights (+69.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 96 nights (+300.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 67,100 registered bed nights (+42.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 13,600 (-28.3 %) for foreigners in Svalbard, in total 80,800 (+22.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.4 percent

Total of 1.3 million registered bed nights (+49.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 980,000 nights (+31.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 271,000 nights (+196.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Svalbard out of total registered bed nights was 0.4 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

Length of stay was 3.1 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased four percent compared to earlier year. In Svalbard, length of stay in December was on average 3.1 nights and in Norway 2.2 nights (-10.3 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.9 nights (+5.5 %) and foreigners 3.5 nights (-9.5 %).

1,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 84 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 67.5 percent were domestic, and 32.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.9 nights (-0.37) and foreigners 3.5 nights (+0.74).

2,500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 57 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.

In addition, there were 3,100 passengers departing the airport (+51.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 5,600 (+54.1 %).
