Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 320 percent

In June 2022, 18,100 registered bed nights were recorded in Svalbard (+324.9 %), of which 8,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 9,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 112 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 8,800 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 320 percent from last year's June.

17,300 nights (+469.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 74 nights (-93.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and June, 52,300 registered bed nights (+79.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 33,100 (+4,378.4 %) for foreigners in Svalbard, in total 85,500 (+186.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.4 percent

Total of 4.5 million registered bed nights (+64.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.1 million nights (+18.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 1.4 million nights (+904.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Svalbard out of total registered bed nights was 0.4 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

Length of stay was 2.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 40 percent compared to earlier year. In Svalbard, length of stay in June was on average 2.0 nights and in Norway 2.0 nights (-11.7 %).

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.0 nights (-19.6 %) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+4.9 %).

9,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 600 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 47.7 percent were domestic, and 52.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Svalbard on average 2.0 nights (-1.3) and foreigners 1.9 nights (0.0).

13,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 13,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 400 percent.

Of local passengers, 14.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 86.0 %.

In addition, there were 13,500 passengers departing the airport (+340.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 26,500 (+366.2 %).
