Tornio: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 17 percent
In March 2019, 4,300 bed nights were recorded in Tornio (+16.7 %), of which 3,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,300 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 12 percent and foreign bed nights increased 31 percent. In total, bed nights increased 17 percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (191 nights).
1,100 nights (+37.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,200 nights (+10.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 6,200 bed nights (+10.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 4,200 (+12.8 %) for foreigners in Tornio, in total 10,400 (+11.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Tornio out of total bed nights was 0.2 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.
2,600 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 70.7 percent were domestic, and 29.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Tornio on average 1.6 nights (+0.27) and foreigners 1.7 nights (+0.29).

Total accommodation sales in March were 341,000 euro. The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 11.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 307,000 euro and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 33,700 euro (-2,800).
Total January-March sales were 859,000 euro and they decreased 129,000 euro from the previous year.
