45,000 registered bed nights

In September 2020, 45,000 bed nights were recorded in Turku (-30.8 %), of which 41,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased nine percent and foreign bed nights decreased 82 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 31 percent from last year's September.

29,000 nights (-15.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,000 nights (-48.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and September, 387,000 bed nights (-24.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 35,300 (-74.5 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 423,000 (-35.3 %) nights.

Market share 3.6 percent

Total of 1.2 million bed nights (-32.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (-12.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 87,000 nights (-83.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Turku out of total bed nights was 3.6 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.6 % and foreign bed nights 3.9 %.

27,800 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 23 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 95.6 percent were domestic, and 4.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.6 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 2.8 nights (+0.04).

7,200 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests increased 38 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 52 congresses organized (-5.0) in 2019.

1,800 air travelers

The airport received a total of 1,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 92 percent.

Of local passengers, 83.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 16.1 %.

In addition, there were 2,000 passengers departing the airport (-91.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,800 (-91.9 %).

There were 32,800 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 74 percent. The number of departing passengers was 39,000 (-70.0 %).

Foreign visitors and their consumption

The number of foreign visitors in September was 3,600 (-82.6 %). Out of them 1,300 were on a daytrip and 2,300 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 60,200 (-73.2 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Turku in September was 531,000 euro (148 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 468,000 euro and day visitors 63,700 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 8.7 million euro.

Accommodation sales 2.8 million euro

Total accommodation sales in September were 2.8 million euro (-2.3 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 8.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.5 million euro (-2.2 million) and non-registered sales 246,000 euro (-255,000).

Total January-September sales were 27.5 million euro and they decreased 16.6 million euro from the previous year.
