Turku: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 270 percent (March)
In March 2022, 58,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Turku (+269.8 %), of which 53,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 260 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 380 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 270 percent from last year's March.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (840 nights).
38,600 nights (+385.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 19,400 nights (+150.6 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 119,000 registered bed nights (+93.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 10,800 (+191.9 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 130,000 (+98.9 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 320 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 93.7 percent were domestic, and 6.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.5 nights (-0.18) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-1.2).
3,200 air travelers
The airport received a total of 3,200 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 420 percent.
Of local passengers, 94.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 5.7 %.
In addition, there were 3,300 passengers departing the airport (+530.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 6,500 (+468.2 %).

There were 72,300 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased 490 percent. The number of departing passengers was 71,700 (+487.2 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (72,300 arrivals).

Foreign visitors and their consumption (March)
The number of foreign visitors in March was 10,000 (+666.9 %). Out of them 4,100 were on a daytrip and 5,900 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and March was 21,500 (+243.6 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Turku in March was 1.4 million euro (139 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.2 million euro and day visitors 207,000 euro. Between January and March the consumption was 3.1 million euro.

There were a total of 36,700 user sessions at Turku marketing website in April. The share of visitors using a foreign language in their web browser was 18.6 percent out of all website visitors. The number of total user sessions increased 84 percent from last year's April.
