Turku: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased five percent (February)
In February 2020, 52,900 bed nights were recorded in Turku (+4.8 %), of which 45,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 11 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 21 percent. In total, bed nights increased five percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (1,100 nights).
29,800 nights (-3.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 23,100 nights (+17.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 83,500 bed nights (+11.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,100 (-15.4 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 98,600 (+6.5 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 2.9 percent (February)
Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Turku out of total bed nights was 2.9 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.7 % and foreign bed nights 1.2 %.
34,800 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 89.8 percent were domestic, and 10.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.5 nights (-0.03) and foreigners 2.1 nights (+0.01).
7,200 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 38 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 52 congresses organized (-5.0) in 2019.
8,500 air travelers
The airport received a total of 8,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 50 percent.
Of local passengers, 75.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 24.1 %.
In addition, there were 7,400 passengers departing the airport (-57.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 15,900.

78,000 passengers by ferries (January)
There were 78,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased less than one percent. The number of departing passengers was 77,800 (+1.7 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (78,000 arrivals).

Accommodation sales 3.7 million euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 3.7 million euro (+365,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 12.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 3.3 million euro (+156,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 392,000 euro (+208,000).
Total January-February sales were 6.9 million euro and they increased 675,000 euro from the previous year.
