Turku: Tourism in a nutshell
45,000 registered bed nights (September)
In September 2020, 45,000 bed nights were recorded in Turku (-30.8 %), of which 41,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased nine percent and foreign bed nights decreased 82 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 31 percent from last year's September.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (660 nights).
29,000 nights (-15.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 16,000 nights (-48.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 387,000 bed nights (-24.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 35,300 (-74.5 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 423,000 (-35.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

27,800 tourists arrived to accommodation (September)
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 23 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 95.6 percent were domestic, and 4.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.6 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 2.8 nights (+0.04).
7,200 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 38 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 52 congresses organized (-5.0) in 2019.
2,100 air travelers
The airport received a total of 2,100 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 91 percent.
Of local passengers, 86.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 13.6 %.
In addition, there were 2,200 passengers departing the airport (-90.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 4,300 (-90.7 %).

24,700 passengers by ferries (September)
There were 24,700 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 73 percent. The number of departing passengers was 24,000 (-72.9 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (24,700 arrivals).

Foreign visitors and their consumption (September)
The number of foreign visitors in September was 3,600 (-82.6 %). Out of them 1,300 were on a daytrip and 2,300 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 60,200 (-73.2 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Turku in September was 531,000 euro (148 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 468,000 euro and day visitors 63,700 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 8.7 million euro.

Accommodation sales 3.5 million euro
Total accommodation sales in October were 3.5 million euro (-1.6 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 19.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.8 million euro (-2.0 million) and non-registered sales 691,000 euro (+328,000).
Total January-October sales were 31.0 million euro and they decreased 18.3 million euro from the previous year.
