Registered bed nights increased 48 percent (October)

In October 2021, 75,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Turku (+47.8 %), of which 67,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 8,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 42 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 114 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 48 percent from last year's October.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (1,400 nights).

54,100 nights (+55.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 21,800 nights (+31.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and October, 536,000 registered bed nights (+23.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 38,900 (-1.4 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 575,000 (+21.2 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.7 million registered bed nights (+47.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.5 million nights (+39.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 200,000 nights (+149.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Turku out of total registered bed nights was 4.6 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 4.6 % and foreign bed nights 4.4 %.

49,300 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (October)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 56 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 91.0 percent were domestic, and 9.0 percent were from foreign countries.

During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.5 nights (-0.05) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-1.4).

3,200 air travelers (October)

The airport received a total of 3,200 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 50 percent.

Of local passengers, 93.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 6.6 %.

In addition, there were 3,500 passengers departing the airport (+60.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 6,700 (+55.4 %).

There were 42,100 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased 70 percent. The number of departing passengers was 42,900 (+78.6 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (42,100 arrivals).

Foreign visitors and their consumption (October)

The number of foreign visitors in October was 12,800 (+263.7 %). Out of them 4,400 were on a daytrip and 8,300 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and October was 59,700 (-6.3 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Turku in October was 1.9 million euro (148 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.7 million euro and day visitors 225,000 euro. Between January and October the consumption was 8.7 million euro.

Accommodation sales 4.9 million euro (October)

Total accommodation sales in October were 4.9 million euro (+1.5 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 6.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 4.6 million euro (+1.9 million) and non-registered sales 316,000 euro (-388,000).

Total January-October sales were 37.6 million euro and they increased 6.9 million euro from the previous year.
