Registered bed nights increased 18 percent

In October 2019, 73,600 bed nights were recorded in Turku (+18.5 %), of which 50,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 23,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights increased 78 percent. In total, bed nights increased 18 percent from last year's October.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (2,600 nights).

39,200 nights (+14.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 34,400 nights (+23.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and October, 565,000 bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 162,000 (+12.5 %) for foreigners in Turku, in total 727,000 (+5.7 %) nights.

Market share 4.4 percent

Total of 1.7 million bed nights (+7.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+5.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 436,000 nights (+12.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Turku out of total bed nights was 4.4 % (+0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 4.1 % and foreign bed nights 5.4 %.

38,800 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 84.6 percent were domestic, and 15.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Turku on average 1.5 nights (-0.03) and foreigners 4.0 nights (+2.1).

7,200 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests increased 38 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 52 congresses organized (-5.0) in 2019.

23,100 air travelers

The airport received a total of 23,100 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 40 percent.

Of local passengers, 79.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 20.6 %.

In addition, there were 23,100 passengers departing the airport (+36.3 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 46,100 (+38.4 %).

114,000 passengers by ferries

There were 114,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased less than one percent. The number of departing passengers was 110,000 (-0.9 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (114,000 arrivals).

Foreign visitors and their consumption

The number of foreign visitors in October was 17,200. Out of them 5,900 were on a daytrip and 11,200 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and October was 241,000.

Total consumption of these visitors in Turku in October was 2.5 million euro (148 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 2.2 million euro and day visitors 303,000 euro. Between January and October the consumption was 34.5 million euro.

Accommodation sales 5.1 million euro

Total accommodation sales in October were 5.1 million euro (+943,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 7.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 4.8 million euro (+826,000) and non-registered sales 363,000 euro (+118,000).

Total January-October sales were 49.2 million euro and they increased 5.0 million euro from the previous year.
