Registered bed nights increased 46 percent (August)

In August 2021, 447,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Uusimaa (+45.9 %), of which 326,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 121,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 34 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 91 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 46 percent from last year's August.

279,000 nights (+60.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 168,000 nights (+27.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 1.7 million registered bed nights (+13.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 376,000 (-39.1 %) for foreigners in Uusimaa, in total 2.0 million (-2.0 %) registered nights.

Market share 21.7 percent (August)

Total of 2.1 million registered bed nights (+23.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (+17.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 264,000 nights (+77.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Uusimaa out of total registered bed nights was 21.7 % (+3.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 18.2 % and foreign bed nights 45.9 %.

246,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (August)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 48 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 77.7 percent were domestic, and 22.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Uusimaa on average 1.7 nights (-0.06) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+0.01).

228,000 air travelers (Helsinki)

The airport received a total of 228,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 195 percent. 40,800 travelers were transferring planes (+135.0 %) and 188,000 were local passengers (+212.1 %).

Of local passengers, 80.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 19.4 %. For transferring passengers, the share of travelers arriving from abroad was 81.9 %.

In addition, there were 207,000 passengers departing the airport (+213.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 436,000 (+203.6 %).

236,000 passengers by ferries (August, Helsinki)

There were 236,000 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 25 percent. The number of departing passengers was 224,000 (-23.3 %). Most arrivals were from Estonia (199,000 arrivals).
