Vaasa: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In January 2019, 15,200 bed nights were recorded in Vaasa (+0.6 %), of which 12,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased four percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's January.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (910 nights).
5,100 nights (+0.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 10,100 nights (+0.6 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Vaasa out of total bed nights was 1.0 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.
10,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 83.9 percent were domestic, and 16.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Vaasa on average 1.4 nights (+0.11) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.01).
3,300 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 24 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 33 congresses organized (-5.0) in 2018.
10,600 air travelers
The airport received a total of 10,600 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased five percent.
Of local passengers, 43.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 56.4 %.
In addition, there were 11,200 passengers departing the airport (-7.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 21,800.

There were 1,600 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 72 percent. The number of departing passengers was 1,800 (-68.8 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (1,600 arrivals).

Accommodation sales 1.1 million euro
Total accommodation sales in January were 1.1 million euro (-31,200). The share of Airbnb was 4.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.1 million euro (-42,300) and Airbnb sales 47,200 euro (+11,100).
