Vaasa: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased two percent
In August 2019, 27,500 bed nights were recorded in Vaasa (+2.5 %), of which 19,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 8,300 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased three percent and foreign bed nights increased 17 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (3,500 nights).
15,000 nights (+5.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 12,400 nights (-1.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 147,000 bed nights (+10.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 45,900 (-4.3 %) for foreigners in Vaasa, in total 192,000 (+6.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 18 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 73.5 percent were domestic, and 26.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Vaasa on average 1.4 nights (-0.15) and foreigners 1.6 nights (-0.53).
6,300 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 90 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 39 congresses organized (+6.0) in 2019.
10,900 air travelers
The airport received a total of 10,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased two percent.
Of local passengers, 45.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 54.1 %.
In addition, there were 12,000 passengers departing the airport (+0.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 22,900 (+1.2 %).

There were 15,200 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased 24 percent. The number of departing passengers was 13,600 (+3.7 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (13,900 arrivals).
