18,100 registered bed nights

In March 2019, 18,100 bed nights were recorded in Vaasa (-2.7 %), of which 14,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased one percent and foreign bed nights decreased seven percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's March.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (1,100 nights).

5,500 nights (-5.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 12,700 nights (-1.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 39,100 bed nights (+0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 10,200 (-8.1 %) for foreigners in Vaasa, in total 49,200 (-1.6 %) nights.

Market share 1.0 percent

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Vaasa out of total bed nights was 1.0 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.7 %.

12,100 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 83.3 percent were domestic, and 16.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Vaasa on average 1.4 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.1).

6,300 international congress guests in 2019

The number of international congress quests increased 90 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 39 congresses organized (+6.0) in 2019.

13,600 air travelers

The airport received a total of 13,600 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased six percent.

Of local passengers, 44.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 55.7 %.

In addition, there were 12,800 passengers departing the airport (-4.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 26,400.

6,900 passengers by ferries

There were 6,900 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 22 percent. The number of departing passengers was 6,200 (-17.4 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (6,900 arrivals).

Accommodation sales 1.5 million euro

Total accommodation sales in March were 1.5 million euro (+92,400). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 4.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.4 million euro (+75,900) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 67,200 euro (+16,600).

Total January-March sales were 3.8 million euro and they decreased 31,200 euro from the previous year.
