Vaasa: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased six percent
In October 2019, 21,800 bed nights were recorded in Vaasa (+5.8 %), of which 17,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased seven percent and foreign bed nights decreased one percent. In total, bed nights increased six percent from last year's October.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (1,100 nights).
7,500 nights (-3.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 14,300 nights (+11.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and October, 178,000 bed nights (+8.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 54,700 (-4.0 %) for foreigners in Vaasa, in total 232,000 (+5.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

13,600 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 85.3 percent were domestic, and 14.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Vaasa on average 1.5 nights (+0.13) and foreigners 2.1 nights (+0.21).
6,300 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 90 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 39 congresses organized (+6.0) in 2019.
15,300 air travelers
The airport received a total of 15,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased less than one percent.
Of local passengers, 52.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 47.7 %.
In addition, there were 15,400 passengers departing the airport (+0.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 30,700 (+0.2 %).

There were 7,500 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port increased two percent. The number of departing passengers was 7,100 (-5.7 %). Most arrivals were from Sweden (7,500 arrivals).
