Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased six percent

In February 2020, 8,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Varkaus Region (+5.6 %), of which 7,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased less than one percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 67 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased six percent from last year's February.

3,600 nights (-19.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,300 nights (+33.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 14,000 registered bed nights (+11.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 3,400 (+63.7 %) for foreigners in Varkaus Region, in total 17,400 (+18.8 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.5 percent

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (+7.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 611,000 nights (+1.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Varkaus Region out of total registered bed nights was 0.5 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.

Comparison of registered bed nights between regions

Length of stay increased 18 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 18 percent compared to earlier year. In Varkaus Region, length of stay in February was on average 2.2 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+2.0 %).

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Varkaus Region on average 2.1 nights (+13.3 %) and foreigners 3.3 nights (+39.7 %).

4,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 10 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 90.5 percent were domestic, and 9.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Varkaus Region on average 2.1 nights (+0.22) and foreigners 3.3 nights (+1.4).
