28,800 registered bed nights

In May 2020, 28,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Västerås (-48.6 %), of which 27,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 46 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 74 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 49 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from United States (220 nights).

7,300 rooms (-42.4 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 6,300 rooms (-68.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 155,000 registered bed nights (-24.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 11,300 (-43.4 %) for foreigners in Västerås, in total 166,000 (-26.4 %) registered nights.

Total of 2.2 million registered bed nights (-58.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.1 million nights (-49.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 176,000 nights (-86.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Västerås out of total registered bed nights was 1.3 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.7 %.

Length of stay increased 34 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 34 percent compared to earlier year. In Västerås, length of stay in May was on average 2.7 nights and in Sweden 2.4 nights (+30.7 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.7 nights (+7.8 %) and foreigners 2.2 nights (+17.9 %).

10,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 62 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.6 percent were domestic, and 5.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.7 nights (+0.73) and foreigners 2.2 nights (-0.03).
