54,400 registered bed nights

In August 2020, 54,400 registered bed nights were recorded in Västerås (-11.1 %), of which 51,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased three percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 61 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 11 percent from last year's August.

13,300 rooms (-10.7 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 11,500 rooms (-26.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 306,000 registered bed nights (-16.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 17,400 (-59.2 %) for foreigners in Västerås, in total 324,000 (-20.8 %) registered nights.

Total of 6.1 million registered bed nights (-31.8 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 5.4 million nights (-10.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 615,000 nights (-77.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Västerås out of total registered bed nights was 0.9 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.5 %.

Length of stay increased 10 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 10 percent compared to earlier year. In Västerås, length of stay in August was on average 2.4 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (+6.0 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.5 nights (+8.3 %) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+5.1 %).

22,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 19 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 92.7 percent were domestic, and 7.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.5 nights (+0.25) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-0.25).
