Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 35 percent

In May 2021, 39,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Västerås (+35.3 %), of which 36,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 33 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 86 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 35 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Finland (550 nights).

11,400 rooms (+56.5 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 8,500 rooms (+34.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 142,000 registered bed nights (-8.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 8,800 (-21.5 %) for foreigners in Västerås, in total 151,000 (-9.3 %) registered nights.

Total of 3.3 million registered bed nights (+46.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.0 million nights (+45.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 291,000 nights (+65.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Västerås out of total registered bed nights was 1.2 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.

Length of stay was 2.3 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 14 percent compared to earlier year. In Västerås, length of stay in May was on average 2.3 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-5.3 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.3 nights (+3.3 %) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+32.2 %).

16,900 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 58 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 95.5 percent were domestic, and 4.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Västerås on average 2.3 nights (-0.45) and foreigners 3.0 nights (+0.88).
